3D Hall Effect Sensors

The 3mm long TLE493D I2C interface 3D Hall Effect Sensor $1.97

The Infineon TLE493D is a bit of a cost breakthrough at under $2. Using 3 Hall Effect sensors in a single package, this chip can identify the position of a near magnetic field, that can for example make a longer lifespan replacement for precision continuous rotation potentiometers, that I used to see in aerospace surplus.  There is an Arduino support library available for the I2C interface devices (be sure you know the version your working with), there are 4 different part numbers for the TLE493D-W2B6 fast wake-up chip, whose only difference is their I2C address, allows 4 of the 6 pin sensors to be used on a single bus.

 • 3D magnetic flux density sensing of ±160 mT   (1 miliTeslas = 10 gauss).
 • Programmable flux resolution down to 65 μT (typ.)   (Earth is 35-70  μT).
 • X-Y angular measurement mode.
 • 12-bit data resolution.
 • Sample rate: up to  8.4 KHz.

3D-MS2GO Evaluation Board, runs Arduino (Sensor at the Pointy End) $28.75

Magnetic Control Demos that snap on the eval board, the button can be rotated and pressed (Cost more than the board does)

Here's a worthwhile Tutorial-Review of the eval board for the older TLV493D-A1B6 from 2016:

The Infineon Mega "Getting Started Box IoT" eval. kit $145

For the serious R&D department, there is the Mega evaluation kit with 12 boards and adapters, and a couple of 3D sensor input controls.
Includes: TLV493D 3D sensor, Current Sensor, MEMS Microphone, Biometric & Hardware Security chip. 3D sensor breakout shield (in place of the 3D-MS2GO above) , 2 tiny XMC 2Go boards that run Arduino,  an Arduino format host for the eval shields and an ESP32-Wemos.

Adafruit has a breakout board they sell using the older chip rev for $5.95 (not in stock at the moment)
they provide a Circuit Python driver and reference the Infineon Arduino lib.

There are a number of Angular Position Sensors (like incorporated in some $50 controls that resemble a potentiometer), some of these chips use a 14 bit resolution sensor array, some examples:
  AS5170,  MLX90363 (3D sensor, digital output),  MLX90363 (analog output), KMT36H,  TLE5011 (circa 2011),  TLI5012B.

There are a number of angular sensor chips and modules available on the Chinese surplus market.

BLE Enery Harvesting Switch

On Semi  BLE-SWITCH001-GEVB Eval kit $14.63

Useful for situations like a home automation setup where it's difficult to wire up a wall switch,  one could employ this gadget which uses the force of a switch press to generate sufficient energy (2× min. 0.33 mWs) to send out a bluetooth message.  BLE-SWITCH001-GEVB , sources: Digikey, Mouser ($13.75)
